As the Downtown Club of York approaches its quarter
century anniversary in 2009, the staff and board members are starting to
plan parties and celebrations to commemorate the occasion.
There is good reason to celebrate this milestone.
When the DCY began in 1983, many clubs in the
York area were
closed to people based upon their ethnic or religious background or
gender. The DCY offered a private club where community leaders and
business people could meet for lunch, regardless of gender, religion or
race. Twenty-five years later we proudly remain an open, welcoming
community.
I like to think that the DCY, by our example, played a large
role in the change from exclusion to inclusion at other area private
clubs.
As we look forward to the upcoming celebrations, there are
many new and exciting things happening at the DCY.
-
The hiring of our very own part-time Sales and Marketing Manager
-
The enhanced cooperative spirit of The Yorktowne Hotel management
-
Our new WEB site
-
Member availability of the hotel’s 4th floor Fitness Center
As you can see the DCY is on the move!
Please take the time to review all of the benefits of DCY
membership on our new WEB site. Come for lunch Monday through Friday in
the beautiful Commonwealth Room at The Yorktowne Hotel where tables are
set with fine white linen tablecloths, sparkling crystal and beautiful
flatware. The Commonwealth Room continues to maintain the prestigious
Four Diamond rating, thanks in large part to Executive Chef Mark
Pawlowski, recently named “Iron Chef of
Pennsylvania” for the second year in a row.
And, when you enjoy your newest membership perk, use of the
hotel’s 4th floor Fitness
Center, be sure to enjoy
the beautiful view of the city provided by the window.
I would like to thank the wonderful DCY staff, who everyday
greet us by name and with a smile and provide us with the best service
anywhere. Many thanks to the DCY Board of Directors, who willingly
volunteer their time. A special thanks goes to the new owner of The
Yorktowne Hotel and especially to the hotel’s general manager, Mark
Clossey, whose generosity has enhanced the benefits of club membership
for all of us.
To our members, I thank you for this opportunity to share in
the extraordinary history of our club and this fine, historic hotel, a
landmark in our wonderful community.
If you have any suggestions, questions or concerns, please
feel free to contact Miesha, Kelly or me.
Sincerely yours,
Colleen Burkett,
President
